WSND-V – WAS SICH NICHT DREHT, VERGEHT
Wolfen was not only a place of film production, but also the birthplace of man-made fibers: nylon, Perlon and Dederon have been produced here since the 1920s. A lot has changed since then, but production is still going on: Europe’s only lithium refinery will soon be producing one of the most important raw materials for batteries here. What links the various production processes together? What cycles are emerging? What do the specific working conditions do to people? Based on the mythological image of Ariadne’s thread, artist Deborah Jeromin invites visitors to take on new perspectives on endless production, memory and ecological eternity problems: How did people live with and from fiber production? And how will they live as people of the lithium age? Above all, how do we find our way out of the tangle and web of problems constantly created by industrial production? Based on conversations with local residents, the artist has designed a walk through the industrial area that focuses on the local (ge)strata.
