MONOPOLY – EINE REISE IN DIE HÖHEN UND TIEFEN DER GELDTHEORIE

Author and performer Calle Fuhr is determined to repay his personal national debt in order to give Germany more financial leeway for the future.

Germany needs money. Urgently. Bridges are crumbling, schools are rotting, swimming pools are growing mold. Deutsche Bahn needs a few billion, the healthcare system is not in the best of shape either and the town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen needs to consolidate its budget. Author and performer Calle Fuhr sets out to pay off his debts. Fuhr believes that the less debt a state has, the more it can invest.

Unfortunately, he discovers that he cannot repay his debts at the local savings bank or to Christian Lindner himself. When he also learns that government debt is not necessarily a bad thing, his world is turned upside down. Debt is supposed to be good? How is that possible? To find answers to his questions, he meets economists and bankers, talks to journalists and politicians, to lifeguards and train conductors. What he learns in the process changes his idea of monetary policy and the possibilities of the future.
