FORSCHEN NACH FARBFILMMATERIALIEN JEDER ART

Over one hundred years of eventful industrial history have also given rise to numerous myths surrounding Wolfen and the film factory there in particular. In RESEARCHING FOR FILM MATERIALS OF EVERY KIND, Nataly Hulikova, Alison Shea and Frieda Westphalen attempt to uncover some of them. In a combination of spoken word, sound elements and visual representations, well-known and lesser-known historical narratives are re-examined and artistically processed.

In 1909 – that much is certain – Agfa founded a rapidly growing film factory in Wolfen. But was color film really invented here, as some people claim? What else was researched in the laboratories of the IG Farben headquarters in Central Germany, now the town hall? Did the Americans and British actually transfer Agfa-Color color film processes, recipes and patents to Rochester after the war? The lecture performance is dedicated to these and other questions. It offers insights into the role of Wolfen as an important location for the German film industry before and during the Second World War, as well as the period of occupation by American troops after the end of the war.
