The Goethe-Institut New York has been building bridges between Germany, Europe and the USA since 1969. From Union Square in downtown Manhattan, the institute’s team oversees a network of cultural and educational partners in New York State, Pennsylvania and New Jersey and offers its own language courses as well as events on current socio-political debates and contemporary cultural production from Germany.

Special emphasis is placed on the promotion of literature and translation as well as the visual arts. With the German Film Office (since 2020) and the student exchange program GAPP (since 1972), the institute reaches additional target groups throughout the USA.
