The term ‘Bauhaus’ stands for experimentation, openness and innovation. This self-image is reflected in research, art and teaching as well as a strong international network. The Staatliches Bauhaus, the most influential design school of the 20th century, was founded in 1919 in what is now the university’s main building. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been building on this history since 1996. It is an international university, at home in the cultural city of Weimar. Inspired by its historical role model, around 4,000 students on 40 degree courses today seek and find answers to current questions in science and technology as well as art and culture.
