Michael Loeken and Ulrike Franke have been developing and realizing documentary films and video installations together since 1995. Their works are characterized by a personal signature, which, with a close look at everyday life, makes the universal recognizable and combines tragedy and comedy. They mainly deal with very personal stories of people with different life plans and fates against the backdrop of social developments and upheavals, always observing in long-term projects. In over 15 years, they have followed the structural change in the Ruhr region and made four films about it. Their films have been shown at renowned festivals around the world and have won numerous awards.
