Holger Rossmann
Holger Rossmann, born in Hagenow in 1951, associates Bitterfeld with his time in the prison facility there. After being sentenced to “one to two years” imprisonment for political reasons, he was imprisoned in Bitterfeld for 14 months in 1975 and 1976, where he was forced to work in an aluminum smelter and then in chlorine production. His health was permanently damaged by the catastrophic and life-threatening conditions there, especially by mercury vapors. As a contemporary witness, he spoke about this with the Haus der Geschichte Foundation, at the Halle Forum of the Saxony-Anhalt Memorials Foundation and with the historian Justus Vesting, among others.
