REAL EXISTIEREND

Photographer Martin Maleschka travels from the Baltic Sea to the Ore Mountains to photograph GDR art related to buildings and place it in its historical context. The installation shows a selection of lead glass windows.

Photographer Martin Maleschka has been restlessly traveling through the East for years in search of traces and relics of construction-related art from the GDR. He has now collected over 4,000 photos on his Instagram account alone. The forms range from abstract murals to figurative sculptures, the themes from agriculture to space travel. In the installation, the artist mixes a selection of his photos of various leaded glass windows, which show both the working and the abstract. The section of the pipe system of the Chemiekombinat Bitterfeld depicted here gives an idea of what is installed on backlit LED panels.
