ÖDIPUS IN DER GIFTFABRIK – EINE KLEINE GESCHICHTE DES ARTENSTERBENS

The performance collective les dramaturx embarks on a research trip: From the island of Rügen via the central German chemical triangle to the Bayer plant in Leverkusen, they follow the traces of a systematic poisoning of the world.

“Without God and sunshine, we bring in the harvest” was a self-confident slogan of agriculture in the GDR. Since the middle of the 20th century, modern farming methods and chemicals promised high yields all over the world, regardless of natural conditions. In fact, agriculture experienced an incredible surge in productivity with the so-called Green Revolution. Malnutrition and child mortality fell worldwide. However, the price for this was and is high: modern agriculture is now one of the main causes of the climate crisis and the mass extinction of species. At the same time, it is itself becoming ever more sensitive to natural influences and thus ever more dependent on poisons from the chemical industry. Using a real flea circus and simple theatrical means, the performance collective les dramaturx explores these connections and asks questions about our survival in times of dramatic species extinction.
