In his installation, artist Sven Gatter explores the transformation of the town of Bitterfeld, which has developed from a center of balloon and airship racing to an important location for international motorboat racing in its more than one hundred years of industrial history.

Sven Gatter is particularly interested in the struggle for significance and the search for new success stories in the transformation regions of eastern Germany. In the former mining region of Bitterfeld, where he grew up, he has been photographing the changing urban and landscape spaces, conducting interviews and collecting archive material since 2010. Among other things, he condenses this research into subjective image-text narratives, which then detach themselves from their place of origin and develop an exemplary truthfulness.
