KONTAKTANZEIGEN – QUEERE GENERATIONENDIALOGE IN OSTDEUTSCHLAND

© Scharnierfunktion

Contact ads are placed to establish connections – with people we don’t even know yet, or at least not well. The installation is a lesbian-queer-feminist motivated search for lost and newly desired connections between different generations of queer people in East Germany.

In the 1980s, a lively and dense lesbian-feminist network developed in the GDR. The magazine FRAU ANDERS played a special role in networking and working on lesbian issues. The collective Scharnierfunktion deals with the underground lesbian magazine and other historical materials of the women’s and lesbian movement in the GDR. In conversations with queer activists from the past and present, the installation invites visitors to listen, read and discuss together. The focus is on questions such as: (How) do we find common languages? What political strategies can we pass on? How can differences be endured and how can they be used for contemporary political practice?

Mike Dittrich Frydetzki, Judith Geffert and Jule Gorke encourage interested parties to enter into a personal exchange with an overwritten, often forgotten chapter of East German history. Because it’s actually all been there before, only different!

The project was funded by the Fonds Darstellende Künste with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
