Sven Johne & Falk Haberkorn

Sven Johne, born in 1976 in Bergen auf Rügen, is a visual artist who works with photography, film and text. His works are characterized by a documentary as well as conceptual approach. Many of his works deal with the social upheavals in East Germany; he is interested in the “footnotes of world history” (Johne). His works are represented in national and international collections and have been on view in Hanover, Frankfurt, Rotterdam, and Brussels, among other places.

Falk Haberkorn, born 1974 in Berlin, is a visual artist and photographer. The examination of memory and tradition, preservation and deletion, transmission and loss forms the basis for his works, which have become increasingly performative in recent years. His works are exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Berlin, Düsseldorf, London and New York.

Sven Johne and Falk Haberkorn have been working together for more than fifteen years. During this time they have already traveled together twice by car through the eastern German states. On their road trip in 2004, they explored the question of how eastern Germany coped with the far-reaching structural change and what remained of the awakening after the fall of the Wall. In 2019, they critically examined the changes since then, as well as their own personal and artistic attitudes.
