Manaf Halbouni, born 1984 in Damascus, is an artist. In sculpture, drawing and video, he reflects on his own life experience between the Arab world and Europe. He is known for his works in public space. Halbouni’s Monument project in particular has attracted national and international attention. The installation made of buses, in front of the Frauenkirche in Dresden and later the Brandenburg Gate, was reminiscent of the street barricades made of vehicles in embattled Damascus.
